omg one week seriously passes damn fast.oh wells i miss korea now.a.lot.
the shopping in korea was like uber good.hahahaha.
dang.the problem with me is that i always have like a hell lot of excerpts of texts that i wanna type here.but i cant seem to process these random text into a prose.hahaha.
Day 1 - 31 jan 09
- we reached changi airport at like 7 plus in the morning.then flew off to the land of kimchi.
- touched down in incheon in the evening.after which we transferred to the dinner place.
- the weather in seoul wasnt as cold as we thought it'd be (initial reports said like 6 below zero but it seemed more like single digit in the nights)
- that pretty much sums up the first day. the co-op residence rooms were frigging small tho.
- cant really remember what we did on the second day.i think we had practice or something.or was it sectionals.hahahha.oh yeahs.we had sectionals in the morning.like really really drilled stuff.thanks a million to terrence for giving me advice on stuff to cover.
- the afternoon was a short shopping trip to insadong.it's supposed to be like a traditional arts shopping area of seoul.okay la the shopping wasnt that bad.i bought a handmade organiser/diary thingy.it's kinda cool.hahahaha.
- then we had this erm short session with the ceo (i think) of fraser suites seoul.he did sorta like an intro to the service apartments.hahaha.just some advert on his side and listening on our side.
- then we went for dinner.and.went back to the co-op.
- i cant remember if we had prac that night.i think we did.hahahaha.oh yeah we did.haha.did rehearsal for the first half.
omg this day was like uber packed.
- if i didnt remember wrongly we had sectionals that morning again.yep.then after which we went for lunch on our own before journeying to the ewha women's uni for the masterclass.we had our rehearsal there as well.hahaha.
- the masterclass was kinda kewl.first time seeing nelson in a teaching kinda role.damn kewl la.we were the choir there singing parts of the song for him to explain n teach his korean contemporaries a lil more about asian music.
- the mini performance after the masterclass was kinda kewl.they were like super impressed by pamugun.hahahah.i've been singing it for like 4 years already.
- went back to the co-op.we did our ironing of costumes.omg.this was the first time in my life i ironed something.yinchuin said i was kinda okay with the iron.wheeeeee.now i know how to iron clothes.
Day 4 - 3 feb 09
CONCERT DAY!!!
- omg the big day finally arrived.hahahaha.we had really short warm-ups and a bit of stretching.then adjourned til after lunch.hahaha.
- we then journeyed to the seoul arts centre to get ready for the concert.strangely tho it reminds me of the esplanade back home.hahahaha.giant hall.recital studio.giant dressing rooms.omg the dressing rooms were FRIGGING HUGE.hahahaha.with like damn a lot of lockers.and there were like 4 brown fabric deckchair-like-chairs to lay on.damn fun!
- hahahha then we went for rehearsal on stage with nelson.
- then our guest choir the korean choir went on stage.those who went to watch said the conductor was damn fierce.hahahaha.apparently he totally screwed this tenor who blasted the wrong note in front of his choir.like totally.hahaha.
- then fast forward.yeah the concert started n stuff.i was like frigging nervous n scared n shit.hahahaha.but after a while it was okay.hahaha.i've sorta deduced that nelson's sorta like some kinda spiritual leader for his peeps.there have been times when i felt like damn scared n shit but nelson's reassuring look n smile at the choir just puts me back into a more relaxed mood so that i can concentrate better on the music.hahahaha.
- fast forward.end of concert.apparently they really loved us.hahaha.but also i heard from peeps that there were audiences who left like after the first half.DAMN EVIL PEOPLE.PAY SO MUCH WHY DONT STAY FOR THE WHOLE DAMN CONCERT.SINGAPORE CHOIRS ARENT THAT OL RIGHT?
- oh yeah then damn high all go back co-op to put our stuff n went down for a debrief.
- nelson gave a really motivational talk bout the concert n stuff.he also sorta laid down his direction for the future of chorale.
- then comes the havoc.wheeeee.we went to a nearby pub.jude the korean guy from J&A music so graciously helped us order the inital pitcher of beer n some finger food.hahaha.here's where all my unglam-ness started.hahahahaha.
- the highlights were.i ran out in the open at like 1 or 2 am.i cant rmb the time cos i was damn high.i laughed like mad.even more mad after i started laughing.apparently all this was caught on tape.hahahah.im pretty screwed during the next vc party.im pretty sure snippets are gonna be shown.hahaha.then there was a lotta singing in the pub.there was this point in time where a drunk korean man starting raising his voice.i think he was trying to tell us to shut the fark up and that he wanted to enjoy his food and alcohol with his friend.so anyways jude told us not to worry cuz he told the bar owner already.he told us the bar owner graciously agreed to shove any people out if they were like in our way.hahahahahaha.then the gist is the guys we drank like mad.wahahahah.i kept toasting the basses.wheeeee.anyways thank you sooooooooooooooooooo much my dear basses!!! you guys rock my world!! hahahahaha.no gayness intended in the use of the word dear yeahs.hahahaha.so yeah pretty much the guys drank til we were MAD.hahahahahahaha.
- the basic morning after syndrome hit me the moment i woke up.hahahaha.felt really like crap.tho not as down-in-the-dumps-ish as the time i vomitted blood.hahahaha.then after packing all the clothes n stuff asik n i were getting ready to go down.hahah.then all of a sudden the doorbell rings.jj came n told me that peeps said she was damn bad to make me laugh like mad n run out in the cold.hahahaha.i assured her it was no problem at all.hahahah.i've been known to do unglam stuff when im damn high from alcohol so who cares? hahahahahaha.
- then we left the co-op and went to myeongdong for shopping! omg this was the first really proper shopping we did on the trip.cuz previously our shopping was cancelled to accomodate our sectionals n stuff.i'm very sure everyone was glad in the end that our rescheduling worked out extremely well for the concert.soo everyone was pia-ing on their shopping.hahahaha.the extension peeps we stayed on the bus initially to transfer to our other co-op residence, the western co-op residence.hahahah.it was like damn nice lor.the room was easily twice the size of the previous one.hahahahaaha.cuz the bed area is abt just as squeezy.but there was an additional workspace area n a toilet that wasnt immediately facing the beds.so it was really big.hahaha.after that we went back to myeongdong to eat.we were trying to find places to eat but didnt really find anything so in the end we went back to the funny sim-something mandoo shop again.when jianhao n i stepped in we looked at the cashier area and were shocked.the lady there squealed in shock toooo.it was the same lady that served us in insadong.hahahahahaha.talk about coincidence.hahaha.she was like saying.insadong!
- okies.so after lunch we got in a bit of shopping.hahaha.the guys didnt really buy anything initially.hahaha.the girls were like spamming etude house, skin food n face shop.hahahah.koreans use damn a lot of cosmetics lor.hahaha.then jianhao n i went to tony molys and i bought a tub of hair wax.hahahaa.another cosmetics shop it was tho.hahaha.
- after that we met up with the peeps.and sent them to the airport to fly back to singapore.hahahaha.they were quite sad to go la.i miss the guys.hahahaha.although i'll be seeing them like this saturday.hahahaa.then they left to check in.hahaha.yinchuin was gonna fly to london for 4.5 months.hahahaha.my drinking kaki!!
- oh wells.then after that we went over to jude's office, j&a music.woohooooo.the company that brought us in sia..hahahahaha.it was decent sized office with like nice low cubicle walls.hahaha.they didnt have a lot of staff there.but it was like quite close-knitted i think.hahahaha.tralala sally went uber crazy about the other korean guy working there and was damn desperate to take a picture with him.soo she finally succeeded.
- after that we went for dinner with jude.hahaha.it was like a local korean restaurant that featured bbq stuff la.sorta like the stuff you see on korean drama.a hotplate on which they put meat to cook.hahaha.oh wells.then we ate n stuff.then the moment we finished and went toilet break i walked out of the restaurant into the corridor.and realised.holy shit it's the same building as last night.hahahahhaa.it's really the same building.the bar that we went to was just behind the restaurant and so was the staircase which i puked on.hahahah.dang it was unglam and i forgot to add that above.
- okays...so after that jude very nicely brought us to learn how to take the subway.hahaha.seoul's subway system is kinda cool.it's a bit like a mix of japan n hongkong's subway.hahaha.the trains and station design thingy are japan-ish and station doors at the platform are quite like hong kong.hahaha.pretty cool.so he taught us how to catch the train back to the stop which was near our co-op.hahaha.he carried on on the train after we alighted.so we went back to the co-op to do some freshening up before going to dongdaemun.
- dongdaemun is like seoul's kind of like orchard road-cum-bugis street.it's lined with buildings at least 7 or 8 stories high.each floor is filled with bugis street-style shopping.hahaha.quite a nice sight.actually i've been to dongdaemun in 2002.but it's completely completely completely different.hahaha.for one thing.the shopping centre buildings are all new now.hahahaha.last time i went the buildings were rather old.the shopping is uber good tho.the girls went crazy over the stuff that was on sale.hahaha.they shopped quite a bit over the next few days.hhahaha.and like dongdaemun is open 24 hrs a day.hahahaha.im not sure if it's literally 24 hrs la.but one thing for sure.i saw one building with opening hours 0800 to 0530 the next day.sooo i think we can safely just round it up to round the clock shopping.and it's really quite cool that we were shopping around at 2 or 3 am.and the streets are still just as packed with people shopping.it's really really really interesting to see it lor.cuz back home all the shops close by 10 or 10.30 pm and the only logical thing to do is either go home, go watch a late night movie, go supper, go drinking, go home or go home.
- so wells.i think this was the night that jj was completely damn tired.she concussed standing up.hahahahaha.and she snapped at joyce when joyce's finger static-ed her.hahahaha.jj looked like she was gonna cry from her upsetness.hahahahah.talk about the interesting effects of lethargy on people.hahahaha.amazingly jj managed to trudge back to the co-op half asleep together with the rest of us.and yeah we bought supper.hahahaha.the fabled twotwo fried chicken! the reason why it's fabled was that for the last few days every night when we journeyed back to our hotel we kept seeing it.as in a branch of it.it's kind of like a local fast-food chain in korea.like the mcdonalds n kfc we have in singapore.except that mcdonalds n kfc are really global franchises.but oh well.singapore doesnt have any other examples of local fast food chains.back to the topic of twotwo.hahahaha.we saw the fried chicken stacked neatly by the display window all the while.so when i finally ordered, we sorta came to our own conclusion of why it was called twotwo.the lady took the chicken and threw it into the deep fryer.sooo we think it's called twotwo cuz it's fried like twice.oh yeah and the spicy chilli sauce thingy.IT'S DAMN NICE.kinda like buffalo wings.hahahahaha.so yeah.we ate supper.and then slept at like 3 plus i think.
